All Done 02:17
It’s so hard to get outta the house, It’s so hard to get outta the bed, And I think I’m all done, I think we’re all done. The oil that runs through the car, And the wood that makes this guitar, And the steel of the strings, Who pays for these things? It’s so easy to forget your place, It’s so simple to pass on the blame, When everything seems the same, The problems still remain. I can’t get it outta my head, And I can’t get up outta the bed, Cuz it’s not gonna stop ‘til we’re all gone and dead. Sometimes this music seems to be enough, Taking wounded hearts away from all that other stuff. Temporary solution, well maybe that’s true, Not a question of want, it’s what we’ve gotta do, To make it through to you. So we’ll play guitars ‘til fingers draw blood, Swallowing these sounds until oblivion, Always waiting for the unlikely outcome, Knowing damn well that the day may never come, But then again, it just might come.

We move so fuckin’ fast that no one seems to notice, They’re all busy standing still. And we’ll cherish all the things that they’ve forgotten. In a sheltered life it’s the subtlety you’re missing, That keeps us holding on. We’ll watch the sun and the moon as they are rising. So kick out the jams, Stay up through the night, Don’t burn down the bridge, That separates your life from the one that you desire. Maybe subtle change, new ways of understanding, That bring you back around. It might take ten years, but inside it’s always burning. And you can see it in the eyes, set deep inside a person, When finally it is found. It’s the will to live, this entire life is learning. So don’t give up now, Still so much to know, Just remember how, It felt to go to bed with dreams inside your head.

Digital numbers on the clock are tellin’ me it’s noon And the temperature in the shade is creepin’ up on 102, It’s my first day off in a while and I’m sweatin’ out the booze From a weekend of cheap regrets into a week of just another few. And I could blame it on the city, but that ain’t fair, Cuz this town’s ambivalent, y’know it just don’t care, When you’re always wasted with your friends And burnin’ out the candle at both ends, It’s just there. Sometimes it helps, but then again it’s hard enough to see, When you’re burnin’ every bridge and all your days are turnin’ into weeks, As a few million people burn up all this energy, Silver-lining some toxic cloud and turning ‘round the gears of this great machine.

Penny 03:11
Hope you never get tired again, And that the thick lines on your face Might fade away. And that the environment That you once knew might be The same as it was in younger days. You’re amazing, Alec, Everything you’ve seen, experienced, And passed along. As long as the tides go out I know you’ll never be completely gone. If eighty years was enough for you Then I guess it was time to Set your spirit free. Sometimes I swear It felt like you could go on For eternity. Rest well now, Alec, Upon that ocean that you lived and loved, And rode upon. As long as the waves come in I know you’ll never be completely gone.

Don’t you ever want it all to stop? Perpetually spinning hands of the clock, And the preoccupations of your mind, Everytime you tell yourself, “If I could only find the time” Well, you can, Everything you understand Is far bigger than… We’re never fully satisfied, Dream of trading place in someone else’s life, Don’t you know it’ll be the same, The decision you see is yours alone to make, Do what you want to now, Make it better somehow. It’s different on that side of the fence, Keep on makin’ believe, keep on playin’ pretend, Tell yourself it’ll all make sense, That depends, that depends, it all depends On what you do, And when you know Just to let it all go.

There is a place where we can go, Where time stands still. And as long as we are there We can forget all of this time that we kill. It’s a place I’ve dreamt about As long as I’ve been alive. It knows not of schedules It knows not of nine-to-five. Yeah, no one gets bitter there, Or worries ‘bout losing their fuckin’ hair, Cuz young and old is just a myth, But someone has you believing it. And yeah we’ll all get slow and grey, But I’ll have a good time anyway, And I’d rather be Maude than Harold, any day. It’s not a story or a song, It’s not a lie. Transcending rational thought, And logical mind. When everything around you Seems to be falling apart, Pile some more fuel on the fire Wild and free in your heart.

Wooden Teeth 04:10
Impermanent all, Everything you know will someday Turn into dust and blow away. These wooden teeth Replace the ones I used to have, Ain’t quite the same, but they’re okay. Don’t hang onto nothin’ so tight, Flow like a river through turbulent life, In some way everything wrong is right, One with the devil, and one with the light. This feeling will pass, Inspiration will show itself, Then be usurped by ennui again. And I can’t stand the chill, But someday the sun is gonna rise And melt this ice under my skin.

Well this sunny city is growing old, I’m right there with you. Assholes idle motorcycles, With nothing better to do. And that crystal meth it’ll mark their death On the avenue. So let’s skip town, To another place away from these fuckin’ clowns. It’s amazing this metropolis can carry on. Pack your bags and we’ll be outta here by dawn. But it’s just another leap into another city’s arms. And it’s easy to get bent outta shape, When it’s so hard to leave. But the leavin’ don’t come easy, When you don’t know where the hell you wanna be! A self-inflicted house arrest, When you just wanna run free. So let’s skip town, I don’t know why we insist on stickin’ round. It’s amazing this metropolis can carry on. Pack your bags and we’ll be outta here by dawn. But it’s just another leap into another city’s arms.
